Lifeguard

 
 

Assist Pool Director in planning and organizing swim lessons for campers and provide supervision in accordance with American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Orange County (NY) Department of Health Guidelines

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 18 years of age (17 under special allowance by Orange County DOH)
  • High school graduate
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • Current American Red Cross CPR-Profession Rescuer & First Aid Responding to Emergencies
  • Previous lifeguard experience
  • Ability to work with others (especially in a team atmosphere)
  • *Applicants who are at least 21 years of age with WSI certification and Lifeguard Management will be considered for the Pool Director Position, which includes supervising lifeguards and teaching swim lessons in addition to the responsibilities below.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead all activities for camper groups that are swim level appropriate, as directed by Pool Director
  • Guard the pool according to American Red Cross Lifeguard Training during free swim and instructional swim times.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment at the pool 
  • Notify Pool Director of supplies needed and maintain inventory during program
  • Ensure the safety and health of all campers during activities (along with the supervising counselor)
  • Ensure camper and staff care for camp property and cleanliness of specialist areas
  • Assist in clean-up of dining hall after each meal
  • Participate in overall program planning and group activities as required
  • Assist in completion of camper evaluations (as necessary)
  • Attend staff orientation
  • Participate in camp closing and end of season inventory
  • Attend intersession staff meetings
  • Supervise campers during “night dorm” as scheduled
  • Other tasks as necessary
